Delaware Charitable Music Incorporated’s Board Of Directors for 2011
Mr. Joe Baione
President of the DCM and a band director for the last 15 years and a professional vibraphonist, Mr. Baione brings a strong combination of teaching and performing to this venture. His teaching accolades include Teacher of the Year in 2002, Excellence in Education Award 2003 and Top 5 Elementary/Middle School Band Programs in Delaware with over 300 students per year. Baione’s jazz resume continues to grow with performances at The Trinidad and Tobago Jazz Festival/Workshop, Clearwater Jazz Holiday, The Lincoln Center, The Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival and The Kimmel Center to name a few. Ms. Sydney Arzt
As past owner of Sydney’s Blues and Jazz Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach, DE for more than twenty years and as one of the originators/producers of the Rehoboth Beach Autumn Jazz Festival now in its 21st year, Sydney is very well known throughout the country for her involvement in music. Her many awards include being honored by former Delaware Governor Ruth Ann Miner as Travel and Tourism Person of the Year and also Southern Delaware Person of the Year. Sydney currently is the coordinator for the weekly Friday music events at Bethany Blues in Lewes, DE. entitled “Sydney’s Music Revival” which is now in its second year. Mr. Rob Fox
As a CPA with Luff & Associates, CPAs, P.A. and a Master’s degree in taxation with 40 years of business experience, Rob brings a wealth of knowledge to our organization. He currently serves as the treasurer of Delaware Charitable Music, The Delaware Friends of Folk and the Dover Capital City Rotary Club. Rob’s other passion, besides live music, is cooking. He is a Kansas City Barbeque Society member, certified BBQ judge and a competition BBQ cook. Mr. Michael Sprouse
An Arts Professional for over 25 years, works by Michael Sprouse can be found in art galleries, as well as private, corporate and public art collections across the United States and Europe. He was owner and curator of the acclaimed Eklektikos Gallery of Art in Washington, DC for 11 years and the Zwaanendael Gallery of Art in Lewes, Delaware for 3 years. Sprouse has had a lifelong love affair with jazz inspired by his late mother, a devoted jazz aficionado, talented vocalist and visual artist in her own right, who regularly attended the famed Newport Jazz Festivals during the 50’s and early 60’s. Currently, he works nationwide as an in-demand contemporary visual artist, freelance art and creative director, digital designer, contemporary arts journalist, live entertainment events coordinator and more. Mr. Carlton L. Cannon, Jr.
Carlton (Butch) Cannon is a man whose entire being is steeped in music. Gospel, Jazz, Blues, Funk, R&B and Classical are all forms of music with which Carlton has been involved. As the current director of bands at the Cab Calloway School of the Arts in Wilmington, DE, he utilizes his performance skills on alto and tenor saxophones, clarinet, flute and various percussion instruments. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Instrumental Music Education from Delaware State University, a Master of Education with an emphasis on school administration from Wilmington College and a Doctorate of Education also from Wilmington University, Additionally, he has been a vice president of the International Association of Jazz Educators and an executive board member of the American Federation of Musicians as well as a performing musician with many well known musical talents including Chaka Khan and Donald Byrd and the Blackbyrds. Ms. Jean Jacobson
Growing up in the Sacramento River Delta, Jean Jacobson developed a passion for the sounds of Dixieland Jazz and Blues permeating Old Sacramento and the Delta region, and through the years that love has only grown. She graduated from Concordia University in Portland, Oregon, with a BA in Elementary Education, and from Salisbury University with an MA in Middle/Secondary Education. An avid cross country traveler, Jean visits festivals, concerts, museums, and historic sites throughout her travels across the United States. She is a middle school science teacher for the Woodbridge School District and after over a dozen years as a science teacher, she is currently making a change to Language Arts. Always a music and arts enthusiast, Jean shares her love for learning with her students at Phillis Wheatley Middle School.Contact Jean via email at jean@demusic.org.
Ms. Carol Fezuk
After relocating to Southern Delaware, Pennsylvania native and former Philadelphian Carol Fezuk designed and published informative travel destination magazines between 1994-2006. A live music devotee and proclaimed jazz lover, Carol became a media partner of the renown Rehoboth Beach Autumn Jazz Festival and has continued to be a staunch supporter of local entertainment venues that promote both jazz and live music at the beach. As proprietor of Strictly Confidential Marketing, a freelance graphic design and marketing business located in Lewes, Delaware, Fezuk is responsible for the branding of a variety of businesses via advertising, collateral pieces, social marketing, web and media campaigns. Her specialties include real estate marketing and advertising for restaurants and bars. Fezuk also serves as a freelance writer for such popular local Sussex County based publications as Delaware Beach Weddings and Best Places In Town. Contact Carol at carol@demusic.org.
Mr. Friendoll Tucker, Jr
Computer Technician/Corporate Trainer Friendoll Tucker, Jr.’s perennial enthusiasm for music has formulated within him a deep-seated joy for music of all genres. Tucker’s zeal is particularly noted when serving as an active choir member and the Minister of Special Music at the Calvary Assembly of God as he has done so for the last 16 years. He has also ministered in song at several other churches throughout the Delmarva Peninsula. Inspired by a past and present eagerness to encourage and enlighten youth, Friendoll is the first to volunteer for any worthwhile opportunity to further this cause. Tucker believes it his continuous love of music and determination to advance and inspirit youth that has brought him to Delaware Charitable Music, Inc. where he hopes to serve in whatever capacity his skills and passion will permit.
